  • Conducted a three-year research project on team communication and work-culture change in a high-technology, public bureaucracy; basis for dissertation
  • Conducted a study of the construction of male adolescent group identity through discursive interactions (after the Columbine massacre); Won Top Three Papers  award in the Language and Social Interaction Division at the conference of the International Communication Association, 2002
  • Conducted a study of dysfunctional manager/team communication at a national investment firm; the study’s paper received two awards in the Language and Social Interaction Division —Best Paper and Best Student Paper; conference of the International Communication Association, 2001
  • Conducted a qualitative study of the seven highest-level,  African-American female executives  in the US government; presented at the National Communication Assoc. convention, 2000

Research under My Direction

  • Directed thesis study of gendered identity shaping through on-line video games; this study was selected for book publication—Living in Guild Wars:  A Cultural Analysis of the Discourse, Dance and Evolution of an MMOG Phenomenon by Cristin L. Etheredge, 2009
  • Directed thesis study of cultural work values among Korean and Korean-American workers in a small business (included mixed race/ethnicity of black Korean-American); published in the Asian Journal of Communication, 2009
  • Directed thesis study of masculinity as shaped through magazine covers; nominated for best thesis award at the University of South Alabama
  • Directed thesis study of identity shaping of “groupies” through rock music groups
